Dr. Hyung-tae Kim was selected as the doctor of the month by Ministry of Health and Welfare and Korea International Medical Association (KIMA) in April, 2014.
With his proven medical technologies and skills which promoted Korea’s advanced medical industry by attracting a flowing number of patients from 37 different countries which in turn have increased the competency of Korea’s Health Welfare in the area of total voice care system and laryngeal treatment. Dr. Hyung-Tae Kim, one of the best ENT specialists in the areas of laryngeal surgery and treatment, established Yeson Voice Center in September, 2003 with its competitive voice examination system and specialized laryngeal surgeries and phonoplasty which is leading to the new paradigm of voice care center.
International patients from 37 different countries are visiting Yeson Voice Center and the main surgeries performed include Vocal Folds Shortening and Advancement of Anterior Commissure (known as Voice Feminization Surgery), Microlaryngeal surgery and Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) surgery to treat laryngeal diseases including vocal folds paralysis, sulcus vocalis, vocal nodule and cysts. Among these, the most specialized and outstanding treatment by Dr.Kim are Voice Feminization Surgery, Laryngeal Papilloma Surgery and Percutaneous Injection Laryngoplasty.
Despite previous types of voice feminization surgery such as cricotyroidopexy and thyroid cartilage and vocal fold reduction, Vocal Folds Shortening and Advancement of Anterior Commissure Dr. Kim performs does not inquire any skin incision and therefore is proven safe with minimized possible complications. Through this surgery one can achieve a feminine voice and thus this new technique of voice surgery is attracting a number of transsexual patients overseas to Korea.
Laryngeal Papilloma known as a highly recurrent disease is also another specialty of Dr. Kim. Through the micro-laryngoscope inserted into the mouth, he performs Microlaryngeal surgery to remove laryngeal papilloma. In addition to this, Pulsed-dye laser is able to remove the micro cells of laryngeal papilloma which results in decreasing the recurrence rate. Most of the patients are from China, Russia and CIS.
Percutaneous Injection Laryngoplasty was firstly introduced in 1991 and it was presented at the 32nd American Voice Learned Society in Philadelphia in June, 2003. It’s the first treatment that operates using electromyogram without the need of anesthesia and skin incision. This is the recommend surgery technique to treat patients with vocal folds paralysis. In addition to this, Pulsed Dye Laser mentioned earlier does not also require general anesthesia and it selects and destroys only the abnormal tissue. Diseases that can be treated by PDLsurgery include sulcus vocalis, laryngeal granuloma, vocal nodule, polyp and so forth.
To add, Phonokinetic Evaluation System developed by Dr. Kim is being used to analyze the phonatory and respiratory patterns of professional voice users. This new evaluation system can objectively analyze the voice problems enabling to provide more accurate diagnosis for the effective treatment.
