Dr. Kim Hyung-Tae, the director of YVC has completed his development upon MPES and got a patent in September. It’s not only the first system developed and used in Korea but also in the world as a whole. Through this machine and system, it can analyze any abnormal respiratory and phonatory patterns of any patient who’s using their voice for occupational purposes.
In the past, there was no such method which could objectively analyze one’s respiratory and phonatory patterns, therefore, only the subjective analysis could be made on any voice issues.
Through the development of MPES, now it is possible to analyze one’s phonatory pattern problems and any abnormal muscle usage being made while singing a song.
Yeson Voice Center has started the study on MPES since 2005 from when YVC started its development of the MPES system and in 2009 YVC worked hard on digitization making it an accurate and objective system. YVC put this system in practice for a year from October, 2009 and total 23 professional voice users and 8 opera singers went through MPES.
For this evaluation, first of all electronic sensors are attached on all the muscles in charge of phonatory and respiratory system so it can come into the data by observing the electronic flow and change resulted from the chest movement, air flow, respiration and muscle usage. Through 19 channels, it analyzes the movement of 12 muscles, respiration, voice strength, upper range phonation, nervousness, disharmony between respiration and phonation, asymmetric muscle movement and etc. Therefore the data brings the satisfactory result for patients with its customized evaluation and result out.
The patent issue on MPES was announced in the World Congress of International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological society of 2010 and 2013 and it’s currently put in practice as a professional examination and treatment program.
The director Kim commented saying, “This system can be an outstanding evaluation and treatment program as it can systematically and objectively analyze one’s voice bringing an accurate data to provide professional voice users with adequate treatment and voice rehabilitation program.”
